Candlewick Workshops: Secrets of Picture Books with Juana Medina “Juana and Lucas: BEST AMIGOS!”

Juana Medina was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. She is the 2017 Pura Belpré Author Award winner for Juana & Lucas; and has also written and illustrated 1 Big Salad, ABC Pasta, and Sweet Shapes. Juana has participated in two recent anthologies: The Hero Next Door and We Are The Change. She has illustrated Smick! written by Doreen Cronin, Lena’s Shoes are Nervous by Keith Calabrese, and I’m a Baked Potato! by Elise Primavera. Juana studied and taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, and the Corcoran College of Art + Design. She lives with her wife, twin sons, and their dear dog, Rosita. Visit her at juanamedina.com

Join Juana for a lively evening of conversation about being bi-lingual, celebrating self and creating meaningful stories about culture. Juana will also demo her drawing techniques, answer questions and sign books.
