Great Backyard Bird Count Discussion @ Community Room
February 7 @ 7:00 pm
“An Introduction to the Great Backyard Bird Count.”
Every February, all over the world, people count the birds in their own back yards. After counting for as little as 15 minutes, they upload their data to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. Researchers compile the sightings to calculate a real-time snapshot of bird populations, migratory patterns and species health. Scientists can’t be everywhere, but as citizen-scientists we can help: last year 180,383 people counted 28,874,960 birds! You can do it too!!
Co-sponsored by Friends of Peaks Island Library and Peaks Island Land Preserve. In the Community Room.
