DESCRIPTION:Annual Meeting and Lecture by Curator Susan Hanley\nAbandon Ship!  Mishaps and Maydays on Casco Bay\nOur Annual Membership Meeting is this Thursday\, August 13 from 5pm to 8pm. Please RSVP here. A light supper will be served on the porch starting at 5:30pm\, followed by a “State of the Fifth Maine” update from the board. \nThen at 7pm\, we will move into the Memorial Hall for a presentation open to all. We are honored to present museum Trustee Susan Hanley as our speaker this year. \nThis season we are excited to open a new exhibit that focuses on shipwrecks and ship emergencies in Casco Bay. Ranging from the desperately tragic to the merely inconvenient\, these incidents help the visitor understand the dangers and complications of water travel before radar\, depth finders\, and other navigational aids made vessels safer. \nOur exhibit team has been hard at work all winter to tell the story of local shipwrecks—some famous\, some relatively unknown\, including one that happened on Peaks Island! How wrecks resulted in improvements in navigational aids or regulations is woven into the narrative. Professor Baird’s research examines the brain and behavioral basis of adolescent development. Her work examines the ways in which social\, emotional\, cognitive\, and brain-based factors drive the processes by which adolescents become adults. \n​ \nTACKLING THE YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS: Tuesday\, August 11 at 7 PM \nCo-Founder & Director of Global Initiatives for the Yellow Tulip Project Suzanne Fox will discuss tackling the youth mental health crisis through art\, storytelling and gardens. The mission of the Yellow Tulip Project is “to smash the stigma surrounding mental illness and to build a community of people who realize that hope happens when youth and community leaders work together. We hope that someday mental illness will be as normal to talk about as any physical illness\, and are fiercely dedicated to making this goal a reality.”
