DESCRIPTION:Announcing 62+ Shopping Trips!\nWe are excited to announce weekly Wednesday afternoon shopping trips on the mainland! Islanders can take the 12:45pm ferry into town and get picked up at Casco Bay Lines by a dedicated city van. Shoppers will be driven to a different plaza with several store options in the greater Portland area each week and then will be brought back to CBL to take the 4:30pm or 5:35pm ferry back to Peaks. Registration for this “door to door” shopping experience is $10 and can be found here: https://portlandme.myrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=29913 \nEach trip will need a minimum of 5 islanders in order to happen\, and the van can accommodate a maximum of 14 passengers. If 5 people are not registered a week before a trip\, the trip will be cancelled and the $10 transportation fee will be refunded. A long-time member of the legendary Battlefield Band\, Alasdair has toured the world and recorded with many of Celtic music’s finest artists. His powerful command of west coast Scottish music and his innovative compositions — including the acclaimed An Iuchair — have made him a leading voice in the tradition. \nEric McDonald\, based in Montréal and originally from Boston\, is a versatile guitarist and mandolinist known for his subtle accompaniment and strong knowledge of traditional music. A former student at Berklee College of Music\, he has toured internationally with bands like Cantrip\, The Outside Track\, The McDades and Kalos\, and is a sought-after collaborator in both performance and studio settings. DESCRIPTION:Shoreline Stabilization Project – Site Walk About\nSaturday\, November 7\, 9:00am\nMeet at Spar Cove. Rain or shine.\nJoin Laura Glendening\, PIC Sustainability Committee co-chair\, and Kim Peaslee\, PEAT Board/PIC Sustainability member\, for stops along the shoreline to view the six proposed work areas for the Shoreline Stabilization Project. \n\nWe’ll visit the site locations – five along Seashore Ave\, and one at Long Point Rd/Picnic Point. We’ll look at the plans\, visualize the length and height of the revetment areas\, talk about proposed access points\, and discuss the modification the engineers are considering. \nTwo City engineers toured the six sites with PIC members this week\, and we will share what was learned about the proposed revetment heights (some are 1’-2’ feet and most are about 3’)\, and the discussion about lowering the tallest proposed revetment (area 2\, by Great Pond Road). \nThis is an informational tour to help interested residents understand the project before the November 10 deadline for public comments (http://tinyurl.com/PeaksShoreline)\, and the November 18 Peaks Island Council meeting when the engineers will present the revised plans (6:15pm\, Community Center). \nWe hope to see you there!
