DESCRIPTION:Announcing 62+ Shopping Trips!\nWe are excited to announce weekly Wednesday afternoon shopping trips on the mainland! Islanders can take the 12:45pm ferry into town and get picked up at Casco Bay Lines by a dedicated city van. Shoppers will be driven to a different plaza with several store options in the greater Portland area each week and then will be brought back to CBL to take the 4:30pm or 5:35pm ferry back to Peaks. Registration for this “door to door” shopping experience is $10 and can be found here: https://portlandme.myrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=29913 \nEach trip will need a minimum of 5 islanders in order to happen\, and the van can accommodate a maximum of 14 passengers. If 5 people are not registered a week before a trip\, the trip will be cancelled and the $10 transportation fee will be refunded. Join illustrator Claire Loon Baldwin as she shares a first-hand illustrated account of the intrepid scientists in Northeastern Greenland National Park. In this world without roads\, polar bears and musk oxen roam wild under the midnight sun. These scientists have journeyed to the ends of the earth to study 2\,000 climate data variables\, and gain critical insight into the climate’s future. This free event will take place in the Portland Public Library’s Rines Auditorium\, Thursday\, November 19 from 5-7 PM. \n  \nThis event is part of the programming for our exhibition Illustrasaurus\, open until December 30. DESCRIPTION:Portland\, ME\, October 28\, 2026. – Six local historical societies in Greater Portland will be collaborating on a year of programming starting in December. The collaboration\, called “Loose Lips Sink Ships\,” will commemorate the 85th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor which took place on December 7\, 1941. The six contributing organizations are South Portland Historical Society\, Cape Elizabeth Historical Preservation Society\, Chebeague Island Historical Society\, Long Island Historical Society\, Peaks Island Historical Society\, and the Fort McKinley Museum at Diamond Cove. \nThe first program in the series will be a panel discussion held on December 10th at 5:30pm in the Casco Bay Room of the South Portland Community Center\, 21 Nelson Road\, South Portland. Representatives of each of the participating organizations will preview the upcoming year of lectures. In 2027\, each of the organizations will offer a lecture about WWII in their locale.
