A Book by its Cover: The Case of The Scoundrel’s Son Lecture
A Book by its Cover: The Case of The Scoundrel’s Son with Fred Fahey, Scott Nash and Doug Smith: Wednesday, August 27 at 7:00pm**
Whether on the shelf of their favorite bookstore or a popular website, readers are drawn to books by their covers despite the adage on how such should be judged. In this presentation, the author, art director/designer and illustrator will discuss how their collaboration led to the cover of The Scoundrel’s Son, a work of historical Tudor fiction as well as a pastiche to Mark Twain’s The Prince and the Pauper. Fred will discuss the concept for his novel and what aspects of the tale he wanted the cover to convey. Scott will share his vision of this 21st century work and how it could reflect artistic elements from both the 16th and the 19th century. Doug will tell of how he embraced all these elements and created a wonderful reality. Artwork from the earliest sketches to the final product will also be on display.
